Wage, Salary and Benefits Survey
Each spring, LGC invites municipalities to participate in the annual wage, salary and benefits survey. The resulting data is published each fall in the Wage, Salary and Benefits Survey for Municipalities.
The Survey provides information for various core positions within the categories of administrative; finance; clerical/fiscal; labor, trade and public works; library; inspection, technical and professional; police; fire and rescue. The survey collects information on common positions found in the majority of municipalities, but may not include every position within your particular city or town. Benefits information details holidays; vacation; sick leave; health and dental insurance; personal leave; retirement; uniform allowance; labor contracts; pay and longevity plans; short-term disability, long-term disability and life insurance; and the percent of healthcare premium paid by the municipality for single, two-person and family plans as well as buy-out amounts to employees that decline coverage.
2012 Survey Data Collection Process
The 2012 data collection process will be conducted online. The designated contact for each municipality will be provided a unique user name and password. Municipalities with a January-December fiscal year will receive log in information the week of April 4 and may enter data from April 4-May 27; municipalities with a July-June fiscal year will receive log in information the week of May 23 and may enter data from May 27-July 15. For more information, contact the LGC Communications Department. If you are the designated municipal contact with log in information, you may access the online Salary Survey to update municipal data.

Customized Reports
The LGC staff can analyze data and produce a customized report based on member-specified criteria, such as comparing your municipality to others of similar size, creating regional comparisons or a variety of other comparative methods. Our database contains survey information dating back to 2006, which can be used to make historic comparisons and help identify trends during economic cycles. If your city or town is considering conducting a comprehensive review of employees’ salaries, we can design a report that compares salaries for positions in your community with those offered in communities with similar regional or population-based characteristics.
The customized reporting service is currently offered free of charge to member municipalities and reports can be provided in PDF or Excel format. For more information and to request a customized report, contact the LGC Communications Department.
