On Thursday, May 6, representatives of the New Hampshire Local Government Center, Primex and SchoolCare held a press conference at the Legislative Office Building to respond to proposed legislation affecting New Hampshire public risk pools. Also attending, in support of the three organizations, were numerous local officials who were present to testify at the Senate Finance Committee public hearing later in the afternoon.

How You Can Help:
- Contact your local news outlet to outline the facts and explain why this legislation presents negative consequences for local governments. Write a letter to the editor or an opinion column. (Two examples: Bill Herman, Concord Monitor and Todd Selig, Foster’s Daily Democrat.)
- Contact your legislators and explain the importance of rate stability when planning local budgets. Talk with local officials in your area and coordinate communications.
- Contact NHMA with questions and updates on local efforts to defeat this legislation.
End the Pole Tax Exemption!

NHMA has prepared a PDF Fact Sheet on SB 492, the bill that seeks to extend the property tax exemption for telecommunications poles and conduits. This document addresses all of the arguments that are routinely raised for preserving the exemption. The House will vote on the bill on Wednesday, April 21. Please call your representatives and urge them to vote to kill SB 492.
